How We're Different
We believe in transparency, quality over quantity and doing things right so we’re sharing just exactly what makes us different with you.
We have high standards and that starts with the very metals that go into your pieces. Our crafting process starts with ethically and sustainably produced gold and silver grains from Germany. While some workshops will melt down their own ingots which leads to imbalances in their materials, ours uses casting grains specifically formulated for long-lasting and tarnish free pieces.
Our grain formula comes from decades of experience in the industry and is crafted specifically for consistency, durability and shine. Each grain is meticulously inspected to make sure it passes our purity test before it’s melted down so we get it right every. single. time.
We don’t just design pieces for your everyday, we design it to last everyday. Every Finley piece is meticulously engineered with the fine details in mind. We focus on the small things that others miss like the way you open your necklace clasp to the feel of our rings while typing to make sure Finley pieces seamlessly fits into your life. We then test our pieces with modern, smart and very busy women like you to get IRL feedback. Our pieces have been tested in over 34 gym sessions, 182 showers, 22 office meetings and 5 beach vacations so they aren’t just pretty, they stick around.
03. Hand Polishing Only
We don’t take shortcuts, especially when it comes to our gold pieces. Because gold is such a malleable material, a lot of it can be lost during the polishing stage of the crafting process when using machinery like tumblers. More waste means less gold in your pieces and a bigger negative impact on the environment, so nobody wins.
To combat this, every single Finley piece is obsessively hand polished to minimize the wastage and maximize shine.
04. Gold Recycling
We’re mindful about the waste we put out into the world and we make it a priority to minimize that footprint every chance we get. One of the largest sources of waste metals in the crafting process is from the excess gold that comes from casting, so we decided to find a way to fix that. Instead of throwing it away, we found a way to recycle and retain the purity of the gold that is leftover for future use.
This means a substantial decrease in waste flowing back to the environment and in that way, we think everybody wins.
05. Water Recycling
One of the biggest issues with jewelry crafting, like fast fashion, is the unsustainable water process—especially among those who cut corners for profit.
The water used to rinse off pieces between casting, cleaning and finishing contains a vast amount of corrosive waste metals. And more often than not, this water is dumped back into a water source people and wildlife are dependent on without being treated. You’ll see rivers and streams turned all shades of red and orange which means contaminated drinking water, debilitated wildlife and potentially irreversible environmental damage. To help solve this problem, we invested in green infrastructure to minimize our wastewater footprints. We ensure that all water used to craft each piece goes through several recycling treatment machines. This lets us reuse up to 60% of the recycled water in our crafting process, which means much less waste and a lower environmental impact.
If you’re a sucker for details, we use an ultrasonic cleaning process that essentially filters and separates the water from the residual waste metals. The waste is then sent off to a recycling facility for use in other forms of manufacturing. The residual water is treated and filtered through extremely fine filters to ensure that all particles have been separated. The remaining water is transported offsite for other uses in the production ecosystem.
It’s not easy being green, but we put sustainability at the core of everything we do.
